Special Events
ARTview
ARTview is a mosaic of artwork that reflects the diversity and brilliance of the art community that has come together in support of the creative industry and persons with disabilities. The works created by major icons of contemporary art and exciting new talent—with and without disabilities, schooled and self-taught—are donated to SJCS to continue to benefit people with disabilities and to educate the greater community about persons with disabilities as productive, contributing members of society with great talent and artistic expression. Proceeds of art sales are shared directly with the artists.
Details about the next ARTview will be posted when they are finalized.
The Pillow Lee Award
The Pillow Lee Award recognizes the contributions of a staff or board member, or volunteer– both for quality and length of service to the agency. The first recipient, Mrs. Frederick B. (Pillow) Lee, was given this special award for both her long dedication to SJCS and her special contribution to this historic non-profit agency. The event is held annually at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where our historic agency was founded over 140 years ago.
Those interested in supporting the Pillow Lee Awards can make contributions in the honoree’s name, donate in-kind gifts of food, printing services, and/or music for the event, or show your support by attending.
Details about the next Pillow Lee Award Ceremony will be posted when they are finalized.
Celebration of People of All Abilities: St. John’s Community Services 140th Anniversary
St. John's Community Services celebrated its 140th anniversary of service to people with disabilities and honored people of all abilities by hosting a special evening at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, on November 6, 2008. The evening featured music by internationally acclaimed four-time Grammy Award winners, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and an art sale (ARTview) featuring pieces by established and newly discovered talent representing our nation’s wide spectrum of people with and without disabilities. The arts community, disability groups, Interfaith groups, local and national corporations, and the community at large were invited to join the festivities and build lasting partnerships. Fifteen hundred people with disabilities and the staff who support them attended the event, made possible by the generosity of our sponsors.
