“My Voice Matters”

LuWan has lived with disabilities her entire life. She was adopted as a young girl and her family did everything they could to involve her in her community and give her the best life possible. LuWan has always had difficulty communicating with the world around her. This has been very frustrating at times, being stuck with her own thoughts and not able to share them with others.

Your support of LuWan has helped her feel at home in her community, she resides in an SJCS residential home where she has wonderful roommates, a direct support person, and a job. However, one of the greatest gifts your support has given LuWan has been a voice.

A few months ago LuWan was introduced to Voiceitt, an app which helps individuals with non-standard speech communicate effectively. Her world is opening up, with the use of this technology.

Technology like Voiceitt is life changing for someone like LuWan, and friends like you help SJCS create these very individualized plans and support for the individuals living with disabilities, so they can live their best life. Without you LuWan would still be relying on her direct support professional to communicate for her. She would be living with her thoughts and feelings held inside -- isolated from those around her.  But you have made a difference.
